Let’s Dance – Marathon Style

So what is Dance Marathon, anyway?

Every year, over 400 colleges and universities participate in a year-long (yes, year-long!) movement to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. This movement – Dance Marathon – benefits 170 hospitals across the United States and Canada! Its wide-reaching network provides financial assistance (amounting to over $300 million since 1991) for hospitals to use in whatever way is most beneficial to them. Whether it be providing charitable and conscientious care, or conducting progressive medical research, you can rest assured every dollar donated to Dance Marathon is put to use in a meaningful way.

So what is Dance Marathon, anyway? Dance Marathon is a unique fundraiser which keeps your feet moving. All. Night. Long. Schools get to decide how long their event will last, based on what feels best for their communities, and some Dance Marathons last upwards of 24 hours! Teams have the chance to “adopt” or sponsor a Miracle Family – a family whose child has been helped by a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, such as Rhode Island’s own Hasbro Children’s Hospital. It’s almost hard to believe that, just by dancing in a room full of both strangers and peers, you are raising funds to help save the lives of 10 million children a year.

Over the next 30 days, In Rhode Island alone, we have THREE fantastic institutions committed to keeping the energy of Dance Marathon alive! Student-led teams at Salve Regina University, University of Rhode Island, and Brown University have all taken on the task of hosting Dance Marathons, and boy, have they done well. The last two years presented interesting challenges to the world of events, and that certainly included Dance Marathon. While the temporary transition to virtual events was hugely successful, we are all looking forward to boogying in person with you, all night long!
