Trust Your Gut – Go Gluten Free!
Well, for a day anyway 🙂
Which disease affects children more than Chrohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, and Cystic Fibrosis combined? Celiac Disease. You may know Celiac Disease as the condition that makes it impossible for the body to process gluten. A lot of people express symptoms of intolerance to gluten, ranging from slight discomfort to outright pain. But an intolerance to gluten, while limited, is not the same as Celiac Disease. So what exactly is Celiac Disease?
Celiac Disease is a chronic autoimmune disease. The body views gluten as an outright attack, and over time leads to malabsorption and inflammation in the small intestine. This means your body is not only gaining nothing from the ingestion of gluten, but the gluten actively damages unseen parts of your body.
Chronic does mean you will have this diagnosis forever, but that doesn’t mean the discomfort needs to. And lots of people can benefit from cutting back on gluten, not just people diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Click here for some exciting gluten free recipes worth trying! (and YES, there desserts!)
National Gluten Free Day is January 13 – which recipes will you try??
